Canadadian Immigration - New Immigration List

Canada, Dec 2, 2008 : Early this year Citizenship & Immigration Canada proposed a new Bill C-50 which will amend the Immigration & Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). This bill was introduced with the aim of modernizing Canada's immigration system and significantly reduces the time it takes to bring newcomers and their families to Canada. Under this proposed changes to the Act, the Minister would have the authority to issue instructions to immigration officers related to the processing of applications, including in relation to the jobs available in Canada, so that people with those skills and experience can be brought to Canada more quickly. By doing this, new immigrants will have more opportunities to find suitable employment sooner, provide a better life for themselves and their families, integrate faster into the Canadian system and benefit more from life in Canada.

These amendments have now been passed and will apply to applications received on or after February 27, 2008. Those who applied before February 27, 2008 will be dealt with under the old rules.

On November 28th Canada's new Immigration Minister Jason Kenny announced the implementation of this new bill and introduced the immigration occupation list which will allow new applicants to file their application under the Federal Skilled Workers & Professional class.

Federal skilled worker applications submitted on or after February 27, 2008, and that meet the following criteria shall be placed into processing immediately upon receipt:
